ADIM ADIM
INITIATIVE
The Purpose of The Present
Document
The present document is intended to inform
you about our initiative we call “Adım Adım…
You can do it!” More particularly, it is about
the collaboration, support and contribution
that we need to keep this enterprise going.
About Us
We are business professionals living in Istanbul,
but also amateur athletes that exercise regularly.
We are particularly interested in endurance
sports such as walking, running and biking.
We try to participate in marathons, semi-marathons
and triathlons in Turkey and abroad.
We have decided to share our hobby with other
people in such a way as to create a charity
activity. Our key words are sports, social
responsibility, team spirit and charity. We
think everyone can do something to make the
world better.

Basic Concepts
Non-governmental organization (NGO): A non-profit-seeking
organization receiving donations through athletes
participating in our initiative.
Our Initiative: Adım Adım Initiative (AAI):
We bring athletes together and assist them
in their preparation for sports events in
return for their undertaking to raise a given
amount of money for charity purposes. We provide
the infrastructure and take care of the administration.
Individuals as well as legal entities can
join the AAI.
Athletes: They apply to the AAI with a view
to participating in a sports event undertaking
to raise a given amount of money for charity
purposes.
Volunteers: They work for the AAI on a voluntary
basis.
Sponsors: These are individuals or companies
that provide support in cash or in kind through
the activities of the AAI.
Donors: Individuals or legal entities making
a donation to a non-governmental organization
through athletes.
Donation: This is the amount of money an
athlete undertakes to raise for a non-governmental
organization in return for his/her benefiting
from the support of the AAI. AAI fixes a minimum
for the donation.
Vision
We want to become a model non-governmental
organization aiming to enable individuals
and legal entities that are willing to make
donations to contact charity organizations
through sports activities.
Mission
We believe that individuals
have a responsibility in the improvement of
the society. It is by individual contributions
that the society will be better as a whole.
We observe an unjust distribution of income
in Turkey as well as an inefficient use of
resources, which result in a large number
of people who need help. And people who are
willing to bring help sometimes find it difficult
to come together owing to difficulties in
communication and to a lack of organization.
The “Adım Adım” initiative relies on the social
aspect of the sports in its aim to:
• Promote a culture of charity in Turkey,
• Contribute to the image of sports as a means
of raising money for charity purposes,
• Familiarize more people with the concepts
of sports and charity; and finally, as the
end product of all these,
• Create and administer a charity organization
based on sports activities.
Basic Values
Here are the driving values of the Adım Adım
Initiative:
• The AAI works to render service to the society
in close collaboration with non-governmental
organizations that are intended to bring help
to people who need help and with those individuals
and organizations who want to make donations
as well as volunteers, athletes and public
authorities in charge of sports.
• The AAI is open to all people and organizations
that want to contribute on a voluntary basis.

• The AAI may receive sponsor support in
cash or in kind with a view to improve the
AAI’s efficiency. The SSI shall accept sponsor
support subject to the following conditions:
- Sponsor support can be in cash or in kind.
- There are two kinds of sponsorship:
-- Major sponsor: A sponsor who provides for
at least half the requirements of the AAI.
-- Co-sponsor: A sponsor who provides for
the requirements of the AAI in a specific
area. For instance: a transport company, a
sports clothing company, a hospital etc.
- Promotion of sponsors shall not overshadow
the main purposes of the AAI, namely charity,
and the name of the initiative “Adım Adım”
shall always occupy a dominant position in
the representations relating to the activities.
This rule is applicable to all sponsors regardless
of the amount of the support in cash or in
kind.
-- These rules shall apply to all logos, sponsor
names, visuals, press releases and promotion
materials.
- Sponsors’ communication with the press relating
to the AAI shall be coordinated with the organization.
- No support, whether in cash or in kind,
shall be accepted from producers of products
that are publicly known and medically proven
to damage health.
-- No support in kind or in cash shall be
accepted from producers of alcoholic drinks
or tobacco products.
- All sponsor contributions shall be carried
out under a sponsorship agreement and receipts
shall be issued for contributions.
Objectives
AAI’s long-term goals are the following:
- To create a reliable, transparent and easy-to-audit
infrastructure for the AAI; to use means of
communication to obtain public support; to
draw as many athletes and donors and to raise
as much money as possible always keeping to
the principles of the organization.
- To organize ourselves as a pioneer and a
model non-governmental organization based
on the concepts of sports, aid and charity.
Principal Strategies
The following principal goals are to be achieved
first:
1. Creating a communication plan suitable
for the objects of the initiative and sharing
it with the parties below in an efficient
way:
* Athletes
* Donors
* Volunteers
* Sponsors
* Sports authorities
* Non-governmental Organizations
* The public
2. Creating awareness in the public regarding
sports and charity
* Becoming a representative of the key concepts
of sports, aid and donation through examples
from abroad, articles and so on.
3. Creating awareness among other non-governmental
organizations.
4. Sharing information with all parties involved
in the AAI activities in a transparent way
to ensure a healthy structure and growth.
5. Co nducting infrastructure activities with
a view to organizing ourselves in other cities
in Turkey.
Main Objectives
We are planning to achieve the following goals
within 3 to 4 years:
- To organize ourselves in 7 provinces representing
30% of the total population of Turkey:
-- Istanbul
-- İzmir
-- Ankara
-- Adana
-- Bursa
-- Antalya
-- Eskişehir
- To bring the number of donors to a total
of 5000
- To bring the amount of the aid donated to
NGOs through AAI to 1 million YTL by the end
of the 4th year.
- To increase each year the per capita amount
of donation by 20%
- To contact foreign organizations to ensure
that athletes from Turkey participate in at
least one of their events through the AAI.
Parties
This section defines the parties that the
AAI may contact for the achievement of its
purposes and the relationship between these
parties and the AAI:
To continue to exist, the SSI needs to be
in contact and to collaborate with the following
parties:
-- NGOs
-- Athletes
-- Donors
-- Volunteers
-- Sponsors
-- Turkish sports authorities
-- The media
-- The public
Functioning of The
Organization
The organization is based on the principle
of athletes’ raising money for charity purposes
in exchange for support from the AAI in terms
of advice on the training, health and food
aspects of participating in sports events.
The funds so raised are donated to a Non-governmental
Organization designated by the AAI.
The athlete who has raised the funds or the
donors themselves may give the funds to the
Non-governmental Organization in question.
The AAI does not assume the role of an intermediary
in the act of fund raising. It is only responsible
for recording which athlete has raised which
funds in collaboration with the NGO.
What does the AAI provide for athletes?
1. An opportunity to run for a meaningful
purpose
* Enjoying sports, self-accomplishment,
* Raising funds for charity purposes, exhibiting
social responsibility
2. Professional support
* Fixing a target event
* Fixing a suitable training schedule
3. Fixing a suitable fitness program
4. Fixing and supervising a training program
5. Dietician support
6. Information on the right equipment
7. Assistance in the registration, transport
and accommodation aspects of the target event
8. Promotional and encouraging materials such
as t-shirts etc..
2008 Target Events
The AAI supports athletes in their preparation
for an international event in Turkey for 2008.
- Preparing athletes for events for the first
quarter of 2008,
-- The International ÖGER Antalya Marathon
- Ensuring that at least 250 (up to 600) athletes
prepare, participate in and finish the event
in a healthy way
- Contributing to raising funds of a total
amount of 150.000 YTL (target figure: 250
athletes x 625 YTL) for NGOs.
Attention
The AAI does not receive any funds from people
or organizations other than its sponsors whether
by hand or by bank transfer. Please note that
participants should direct donations only
to NGO bank accounts. We recommend you be
vigilant about scoundrels that may use the
name of AAI for their illegitimate ends. |
